BREWSTER, Mass. (Oct. 19) – The Nichols College golf team finished 27th overall and 13th among Division III schools at the 76th annual New England Intercollegiate Golf Association Championship held October 18-19 at The Captains Golf Course in Brewster, Mass.
Nichols stood in 17th place overall after the first day but with the addition of 20 strokes to the opening day total dropped to 27th with a two-day 662. Senior Jon-Paul Chouinard (Natick, Mass.) was the top finisher in 80th on the individual leaderboard with a two-day 161 (+17). Sophomore Nick Deni (Enfield, Conn.) was one stroke back in 92nd, while senior Dan Cafasso (Prospect, Conn.) finished in 127th place with a two-day 169. Josh Paulhus (Sutton, Mass.) was one stroke back of Cafasso in 136th, and Brian Sears (North Grafton, Mass.) finished in 167th with a two-day 178.
Adam Vaccari of the University of Connecticut defeated Kevin Josephson of Central Connecticut State University on the second playoff hole to finish as the individual medalist with a score of 143 over the 36-hole tournament.
The University of Rhode Island (Div. I), under the leadership of retiring Coach Tom Drennan, won the tournament for the 11th time in the last 13 years with a two-day score of 585 to edge the University of Connecticut by one stroke. Division II was captured by St. Anselm College with a score of 617, one stoke better than American International College. Husson University led the Division III teams with a total of 613.
The New England Intercollegiate Golf Association (NEIGA) has been in existence since 1934 and includes 44 member colleges and universities in New England and is considered to be the oldest and largest college golf tournament. It is unique in that Divisions I, II and III compete together.

Day One
BREWSTER, Mass. (Oct. 18) – Nichols College senior Jon-Paul Chouinard (Natick, Mass.) stands in a tie for 16th place on the individual leaderboard after the first day of play at the 76th Annual New England Intercollegiate Golf Championship at The Captains Golf Course in Brewster, Mass.
Nichols stands in 17th overall and seventh among Division III schools with a 321. University of Rhode Island leads the tournament with a 297, while Husson University leads the Division III field with a 308 and is in sixth overall.
Chouinard fired a four-over 76 on the first day, while sophomore Nick Deni (Enfield, Conn.) was one stroke back in a tie for 30th with a 77 (+5). Senior Dan Cafasso (Prospect, Conn.) shot an 83 to tie for 104th, and classmate Josh Paulhus (Sutton, Mass.) fired an 85 to tie for 122nd. Brian Sears (North Grafton, Mass.) scored an 89 to tie for 159th.
The two-day tournament finishes Tuesday.
