CHICOPEE, Mass. (Sept. 12) – Nichols College senior Shawn Santos (Agawam, Mass.) earned individual medalist honors with a round of 2-over par 73 to help the Bison claim team medalist honors for the second straight year in Tuesday afternoon's nine-team Blazer Invitational hosted by Elms College at Chicopee Country Club.
Nichols had all four of its scoring golfers place in the top 16 of the 44-player field en route to a score of 310. Franklin Pierce (319), Brandeis (320), Worcester State (330) and Anna Maria (331) rounded out Tuesday's top five teams.
Santos shot an impressive 35 on the front nine and followed that with a 38 on the back nine to seal his Blazer Invitational victory. First year Nick Deni (Enfield, Conn.) shot a 76 for the round, tying for second place, and was followed by senior Pat Pio (Somers, Conn.) who shot a round of 79 in eighth place. Joe Gallagher (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) finished with an 82 on the day in a tie for 16th, while Dan Cafasso (Prospect, Conn.) rounded out the squad with an 86 in 26th place.
