Golf Fifth After Day One at Trinity Invite

HEBRON, Conn. (Sept. 12) – The Nichols College golf team stands in fifth place out of seven teams after the first day of play at the Trinity College Invitational. Saturday's action took place at Blackledge Country Club where senior Pat Pio (Somers, Conn.) finished with an even-par 72 to stand in second place among the 47-player field.

 

The Bison combined for a score of 312, eight strokes behind leader Babson College (304). Just four strokes separated first place from fourth in the team standings.

 

Pio shot a tournament-low 35 on the back nine, and first year Nick Deni (Enfield, Conn.) finished five strokes behind Pio with a 77 (+5) in a five-way tie for 12th place. Dan Cafasso (Prospect, Conn.) cut six strokes off his card on the back nine to finish with an 80 in 23rd place. Senior Shawn Santos (Agawam, Mass.) stood in a four-way tie for 29th with an 83, and Josh Paulhus (Sutton, Mass.) finished two strokes behind tied for 33rd with an 85. In a tie for 35th, Bruce Carter, Jr. (Worcester, Mass.) rounded out the Bison squad with an 86.

 

Nichols will complete play on Sunday with competition slated for a noon tee off at Shuttle Meadow Country Club in Berlin, Conn.
