STOW, Mass. – The Nichols College golf team finished second at the Lou Flumere Mass Invitational hosted by Bentley College at Stow Country Club Wednesday afternoon, finishing 12 strokes behind Salem State with a composite 314. The Bison were led by junior Pat Pio (Somers, Conn.), who took silver medalist honors with a two-over par 74.
Pio fired a 35 on the front nine to stand one back from Salem State's Jeff Santora, who took top medalist honors. Pio shot a 39 on the back to finish four strokes behind the leader, and stood two strokes ahead of a five-way tie for third.
Junior Shawn Santos (Agawam, Mass.) also fired a 35 on the front nine, but finished five-over with a 77 on the day in a three-way tie for eighth place.
Senior Chris Brock (Pomfret Center, Conn.) finished eight-over in a four-way tie for 21st with an 80 (39-41-80), while senior Chris Healy (Charlton, Mass.) shot an 83 (40-43-83) to finish in a six-way tie for 37th at 11-over.
Josh Paulhus (Sutton, Mass.) wrapped up the Bison squad one stroke behind with an 84 (45-39-84) in an eight-way tie for 43rd, with the sophomore posting one of the best totals on the back nine of those he tied with.
Nichols returns to action this weekend at the UMass-Dartmouth Spring Invitational at the Allendale Country Club in North Dartmouth, Mass.
