PLYMOUTH, Mass. – The Nichols College men's golf team opened the spring season with a second-place finish at the Babson Spring Opener, held at the Atlantic Country Club. Led by a third-place individual finish from junior Pat Pio (Somers, Conn.), the Bison posted a two-day composite 625, four strokes behind top-place Salem State.
Pio fired a two-day total five-over par 149 (75, 74), while senior Chris Brock (Pomfret Center, Conn.) tied for fifth on the individual leader board with a ten-over 154 (78, 76).
Senior Chris Healy (Charlton, Mass.) finished four strokes behind in a three-way tie for 11th with a two-day total of 158 (79, 79), while junior Shawn Santos (Agawam, Mass.) cut three strokes off his second day score to tie for 28th with a two-day total 165 (84, 81). Sophomore Dan Caffaso (Prospect, Conn.) rounded out the Bison squad in a tie for 34th with a two-day 168 (83. 85).
Nichols held a three-stroke lead at 315 after the first day of play with Pio in third on the individual leader board. Nick Lombardi of Worcester State took medalist honors with a one-over par 73.
The Bison are back in action at the Bentley Invitational on April 8th at Stow Country Club in Stow, Mass.
