Box Score HARRISVILLE, R.I. – The Nichols College women's hockey team won its first ECAC East game in program history Saturday afternoon, defeating St. Michael's, 1-0, at June Rockwell Levy Rink. First-year forward Cheryl Pitts (Wakefield, Mass.) recorded the game-winning goal and junior netminder Melissa Mansfield (Medford, N.Y.) made 34 saves in her second shutout win of the season. Nichols improves to 2-17-1 overall and 1-14-1 in conference play.
First-year forward Hannah Tardif (Laconia, N.H.) brought the puck in from the point before faking past a defender and firing on St. Michael's goaltender Alysia Goldman (Bollston Lake, N.Y.). Goldman made the save, but Pitts was there to roof the rebound at 11:22 of the middle frame.
St. Michael's held a 34-19 shot advantage in the game, and both teams finished 0-for-5 on the power play.
Nichols travels to Connecticut College for a 7 p.m. game Tuesday, while St. Michael's travels to Holy Cross for a 2 p.m. game Sunday.
