Box Score DUDLEY, Mass. - The Nichols College women's basketball team extended its program-record win streak to 18 games with a 63-31 victory over Gordon College Saturday afternoon in a The Commonwealth Coast Conference game. The Bison, who didn't allow an opponent player to reach double-digit scoring for the third-straight game, were led by 19 points from senior point guard MaryLynn Skarzenski (Woodbridge, N.J.), who is one game away from tying the program's career games played record (106). She will be honored prior to Tuesday night's 6 p.m. home game against Wentworth.
Skarzenski also added six rebounds, seven assists and seven steals on the night, sinking three of seven three-pointers for the Bison (19-2, 9-0 TCCC). Sophomore Michele Guerin (Chicopee, Mass.) added 10 points in 15 minutes off the bench, while sophomore guard Ashley Robidoux (Milford, Mass.) chipped in with seven rebounds (six defensive), three steals and three assists.
Gordon (4-17, 3-6 TCCC) was led by eight points and four rebounds from freshman guard Heather DeKleine and a game-high eight rebounds from senior Erin Thames.
Nichols broke out of a 10-10 deadlock with a 16-3 run late in the first half, and carried a 29-18 lead into halftime. The Bison came alive in the second half, outscoring the Scots, 34-13, on 53.8% shooting from the field.
After building the lead to 35-23 at the 15:34 mark, Nichols didn't allow another Gordon basket until almost eight minutes later when Marybeth Conlon hit one of two free throws, making the score 49-24 in favor of the home team. The Bison finished on a 14-7 run, during which they hit a pair of threes, courtesy of Skarzenski and Guerin.
Nichols shot a scorching 55.6% from beyond the arc in the second half, for a game total 30.4%. The Bison held a slim rebounding advantage at 40-37.
Nichols, which is approaching the program record for wins in a season (21) and sports the fourth-longest win streak in Division III, plays its regular-season home finale Tuesday evening at 6 p.m. against Wentworth for Skarzenski's Senior Night. The Scots are back in action Tuesday hosting Colby-Sawyer at 6 p.m.
