MANCHESTER, Mass. (Oct. 22) – Nichols College senior Pat Pio (Somers, Conn.) took home medalist honors at the The Commonwealth Coast Conference Men's Golf Championship Thursday afternoon at the Essex Country Club. Pio shot an even-par 70 to lead Nichols to a runner-up finish for the second-straight year.
Pio's even-par performance (36-34) Thursday marked the best of his career at the TCCC Championship, and the second medalist performance in four appearances. He was runner up in 2008 after earning medalist honors with a one-over par score as a sophomore in 2006.
Nichols combined for a 318, nine strokes off of champion Endicott. Western New England College, the 2008 Champions, finished third with a 330 composite score, while Anna Maria (338), University of New England (339) and Wentworth Institute of Technology (349) rounded out the field.
First-year Nick Deni (Enfield, Conn.) placed fourth in his Championship debut with a score of 78 while junior Josh Paulhus (Sutton, Mass.) carded an 83 and finished tied for 13th for the Bison. First year Joe Gallagher (Hopewell, Jct., N.Y.) tied for 19th with an 87, and Shawn Santos (Agawam, Mass.) finished things out for Nichols with a 93 in 28th position.
The Championship closes out the fall portion of the Bison's schedule.
