GROTON, Conn. (Oct. 14) – The Nichols College golf team placed second of four teams in a Quad B Match hosted by Mitchell College at Shennecossett Golf Course Wednesday afternoon. First year Joe Gallagher (Hopewell Jct., N.Y.) tied for second with an 80 to lead Nichols to a team score of 332, just one stroke behind first-place Anna Maria.
Gallagher took 10 strokes off his front nine score to shoot an event-low, even-par 35 on the back nine. Junior Joshua Paulhus (Sutton, Mass.) placed one stroke behind Gallagher in fourth with an 81, while first year Matthew Quigley (Sturbridge, Mass.) tied for fifth with an 83. Juniors Jon-Paul Chouinard (Natick, Mass.) and Brent Reihl (Cheshire, Conn.) rounded out the Bison squad both with an 88.
Anna Maria's Nathan McNamara finished with a 77 on the par-71 course to win medalist honors at the event to lead the AMCATS to the team title. Rhode Island College (336) and host Mitchell (350) rounded out the team scores.
Nichols will look to defend its Division III title at the New England Intercollegiate Golf Association (NEIGA) Championship on October 19-20 at The Captains Golf Course in Brewster, Mass., before wrapping up the fall at the The Commonwealth Coast Conference Championship on October 22 at Essex Country Club in Manchester, Mass.
