WORCESTER, Mass. (Oct. 11) – The UMass-Dartmouth golf team took top team honors with a composite 319 at the seventh annual Bison Invitational Sunday afternoon, held at Green Hill Golf Course. The windy conditions didn't seem to faze individual medalist Bob Bruso of Worcester State, who shot a three-under par 69, which was five strokes ahead of the Corsairs' Nick Jagoe, who took home silver medalist honors with a 74 (+2).
The College of the Holy Cross was awarded the Worcester Collegiate Golf Championship trophy for the best score between the local schools of Anna Maria, Holy Cross, Worcester State and Nichols. The Crusaders finished second overall with a 320.
Defending individual medalist Pat Pio (Somers, Conn.) of Nichols finished third with a 75 (+3) to lead Nichols to a team score of 326 and a tie for third place with Endicott. Both Johnson & Wales and Brandeis finished one stroke behind to finish tied for fifth in the 12-team field.
First year Nick Deni (Enfield, Conn.) tied for 16th with an 81, while Shawn Santos (Agawam, Mass.), Bruce Carter, Jr. (Worcester, Mass.) and Dan Cafasso (Prospect, Conn.) all tied for 31st four strokes behind with an 85.
Nichols travels to Mitchell for a B Match on Wednesday before traveling to the NEIGA Championship on October 19-20 at The Captains Golf Course in Brewster, Mass.
