Skarzenski, Women's Hoops Slow Roadrunners, Win 69-47

KEY LARGO, Fla. – Senior guard MaryLynn Skarzenski (Woodbridge, N.J.) scored a career-high 27 points to lead the Nichols College women's basketball team to a 69-47 victory over Ramapo College at the Key Largo Classic Saturday afternoon. Nichols improves to 8-2, while Ramapo dips to 5-6 on the season.

Skarzenski was 10-for-13 from the floor, including a perfect 6-for-6 from beyond the arc, and dished out five assists to go with seven rebounds. Sophomore guard Ashley Robidoux (Milford, Mass.) added nine points, four rebounds and a pair of assists, while sophomore guard Michele Guerin (Chicopee, Mass.) collected eight points and six rebounds off the bench. Junior forward Jessica Nelson (No. Providence, R.I.) collected a team-high nine rebounds to go with four points.

Tiffany China led the Roadrunners with nine points, while Lauren Moschel and Brittany Hoffman pitched in with eight points apiece.

Moschel opened the game with a layup, but Nichols responded right away. After the Bison took the lead on a Skarzenski layup 36 seconds into the game, they never looked back. Nichols led by as many as 20 points in the opening stanza, at one point holding the Roadrunners scoreless for more than seven minutes.

The Bison added on to their 35-18 halftime lead right away after the break with a 17-7 run. With 7:42 left, an Andrea Ferris (Windsor, Mass.) layup put Nichols up by 28, but the Roadrunners closed the game with an 8-2 run.

Nichols held a 45-31 advantage off the glass, but Ramapo maintained an 11-16 advantage in turnovers, converting the Bison's 16 into 17 points.

The Bison, winners of seven straight games, will face St. Joseph's (Maine) in the tournament championship game on Sunday at 5 p.m. The Monks defeated Cedar Crest, 68-62, in the opening game of the tournament.
