Golf Takes Second at TCCC Championship

MANCHESTER, Mass. – Western New England College senior Steve Rourke earned medalist honors as he fired a field-best 70, helping lead the Golden Bears to the 2008 The Commonwealth Coast Conference Golf Championship at the Essex County Club in Manchester, Massachusetts on Thursday afternoon. WNEC shot a combined 311 and held off a strong Nichols College squad who finished in second place with a team score of 319. Host Endicott took third with a 334.

Essex County Club - a 6,401 yard par 70 course - was once again a tremendous location for this year's TCCC Championship. Cool temperatures and a brisk wind couldn't slow the competition, as 29 golfers from six institutions participated in the day-long event.

The top six finishers all came from either Western New England or Nichols College. The Bison's Pat Pio (Somers, Conn.) ended the day with runner-up honors as he finished seven strokes behind the medalist with a 77 (39-38). Nichols' Chris Healy (Charlton, Mass.) came in third with a 78 while teammate Shawn Santos (Agawam, Mass.) and the Golden Bears' Steve Adamshick and Andy Fox tied for fourth with a 79.

Chris Brock (Pomfret Center, Conn.) finished 12th with an 85, while Cole Ruwe (Pekin, Ill.) rounded out the field for the Bison two strokes behind in a four-way tie for 13th place.

The University of New England came in fourth place with a 346, led by freshman Sean Caddigan's 84. Wentworth took home fifth place with a 372 while Anna Maria rounded out the field with a 392. The Leopards were paced by an 88 from John Kilduff good for 17th place overall. The AMCats were led by Dylan Jarmulowicz  who shot a 91 to finish in 20th place.
