BREWSTER, Mass. - The Nichols College men's golf team tied for fourth place overall in the 44-team field at the New England Intercollegiate Golf Association Championship, held at The Captain's Golf Course Monday and Tuesday. The finish marks the best-ever at the NEIGA Championship for the Bison, who took home the Division III title.
Nichols was eighth after the first day of play, and combined for a 302 in the final round for a two-day total 617 to tie with Dartmouth College, 13 strokes behind tournament champion Bryant University.
Junior Pat Pio (Somers, Conn.) fired an even-par 72 in the final round to finish with a two-day total 150 to pace the Bison, placing in a five-way tie for eighth place on the individual leader board.
Senior Chris Healy (Charlton, Mass.) was three-over par in the final round to finish tied for 15th with a 152, while Chris Brock (Pomfret Center, Conn.) tied for 25th with a 155.
Junior Shawn Santos (Agawam, Mass.) fired a final-round 77 to finish tied for 63rd with a 36-hole total 160. Cole Ruwe (Pekin, Ill.) tied for 100th with a two-day total 165.
Nichols will look to defend its title at The Commonwealth Coast Conference Championship Thursday at Essex Country Club in Manchester, Mass.
