BREWSTER, Mass. – The Nichols College men's golf team finished the first day of play in eighth place in the 43-team field at the New England Intercollegiate Golf Association Championship Monday. Nichols was led by seniors Chris Healy (Charlton, Mass.) and Chris Brock (Pomfret Center, Conn.), who each finished day one with a five-over par 77 to tie for 14th on the individual leader board.
The Bison combined for a team score of 315, 13 strokes behind leader Sacred Heart University, and two behind a four-way tie for fourth place.
Nichols placed three golfers in the top 20, as junior Pat Pio (Somers, Conn.) finished a stroke behind Healy and Brock with a 78 to tie for 20th on the individual leader board.
Junior Shawn Santos (Agawam, Mass.) fired an 83 on the first day of competition, while senior Cole Ruwe (Pekin, Ill.) rounded out the Bison's squad with an 86.
Nichols continues play Tuesday morning for the final round.
