Baseball Falls to No.4 University of Lynchburg

LYNCHBURG, VA. (3/9/2026) – The Nichols College baseball team fell to the University of Lynchburg 14-4 on Monday afternoon at James C. Fox Field. The Hornets used early power and a big sixth inning to pull away despite a 9 hit performance from the Bison offense.

After the loss, Nichols moves to 1-4 on the season while Lynchburg improves to 9-3-1.

Lynchburg wasted little time getting on the scoreboard, taking a 2-0 lead in the first inning on a two-run home run by Jack Pokorak. Nichols answered in the second when Ben White delivered an RBI single to center field, scoring Collin Harty to cut the deficit to 2-1.

The Hornets extended their lead in the third inning as Benton Jones launched a two-run homer before Sean Pokorak followed later in the frame with an RBI single, pushing the score to 5-1. Lynchburg added two more runs in the bottom of the fourth to make it 7-1.

Nichols responded in the fifth inning when Ryan Keating reached base and came around to score on a groundout by Liam Flynn, and pitch hitter Tyler Ladouceur followed with an RBI single to center that sent Anthony Hackert home, trimming the lead to 7-3.

Lynchburg broke the game open in the sixth inning when Kyle Moshier delivered a bases-clearing double to score three runs and extend the Hornets' advantage to 10-3. The hosts added four more runs in the eighth inning to build a double-digit lead.

Nichols added a run in the ninth inning when Anthony Hackert singled to bring home Bryce Morrisette, but the rally was cut short as Lynchburg closed out the 14-4 final.

Charles MacElhiney and Hackert led the Bison offense with two hits. Keating, Ladouceur, White, Morrisette, and Michael Ucci each contributed a hit as Nichols finished with 9 hits in the contest. Ucci's hit was the first of his collegiate career.

The Bison returns to action on Thursday, March 12th, when they face Immaculata University in their first game in The Ripken Experience in Myrtle Beach, South Caroline. First pitch is set for 10 AM.
