NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (9/2/23) – Head Coach 
Emma Mawn earned her first win of her career as sophomore 
Taylor Breen and the rest of the Nichols College field hockey team tallied four goals in the second half to come from behind and beat the University of Maine at Farmington on Saturday afternoon, in the Caryl Newhof Classic. The Bison earned their first win of the year with a 4-1 win.
Breen scored three goals including the game winning goal to lead the Bison in scoring. This was Breen's second career hat trick, and she was named to the All-Tournament Team.
Freshman 
Sofia Calabro also tallied her first collegiate goal and added an assist in the win for Nichols. Junior 
Callie Worthington pitched in with two helpers.
The Beavers opened the scoring almost immediately scoring just 34 seconds into the contest. The Bison settled into the game after that and did not allow the Beavers to find the back of the net for the remainder of the game.
Neither team scored for the rest of the first half, and the Beavers led 1-0 after 30 minutes of action. The Bison pulled even 3:40 into the third quarter coming off the stick of 
Taylor Breen. Worthington gathered in an errant pass and went the other way. She passed off to Breen who beat the netminder to the bottom right corner, to draw level at 1.
Breen and Worthington connected again just over 5 minutes later in the quarter to grab a 2-1 lead. Following a penalty corner, freshman 
Katherine Hearn, took a shot from the top of the arch. Beavers' netminder, Ella Grant, saved the initial shot before Worthington's rebound chance trickled through Grant and Breen finished off the loose ball into the back of the goal. This goal was Breen's second of the afternoon and the eventual game winning goal for the Bison.
Calabro jumped in on the scoring as well for Nichols. She scored her first collegiate goal today. After some excellent passing from the Bison, to work their way down the field as the fourth quarter started. Breen's initial shot was stopped, her second shot found it's way past the goalie and Calabro was there and buried the shot to make it 3-1 Bison.
Breen added to her excellent performance with her third goal of the afternoon, coming off a pass from Calabro, that Breen was able to shoot and beat the goalie for a 4-1 lead for Nichols. The Bison would hang on to win 4-1 over the Beavers.
Junior netminder 
Sophia Venable made three saves on four shots in the game and held the Beavers scoreless after allowing an early goal.
The Bison will return home, where they will face off against the AMCATS of Anna Maria from Vendetti Field on Monday, September 4
th. That game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
