DUDLEY, Mass. — Following a semifinal round exit in last season's Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Tournament, the Bison look to keep trending in an upward direction with first-year head coach Shayne Lynch now at the helm. Lynch is poised to lead the Nichols bench after most recently serving as the Associate Head Coach at Holy Cross for the past four seasons.
"It's been a pleasure getting to know this group of young men," said Lynch. "Together, our players are creating a family culture rooted in accountability, selflessness, and toughness. We are excited to play a great non-conference schedule that will help us prepare to play in the competitive CCC. We are grateful for the opportunity to represent the Nichols College community on the field this spring."
Lynch will look to his core of returners, including his top point scorer in attack Cian Keohane, who returns for a fifth year after scoring 52 goals with 11 assists for 63 points a season ago. Also re-joining Keohane at attack are classmate Hunter Ferreira (54 points in 2022) and junior Colby Gillis (56 points in 2022).
On defense, junior Kyle Ettenhofer looks to improve on a 2022 season in which he caused 26 turnovers and scooped 50 ground balls. Ryan Warner, a senior out of Grafton, Mass., led the team with 63 ground balls in 2022.
At goalkeeper, Brady Morgan saw time in all 19 games last season, making 16 starts for the Bison. The sophomore made 196 saves to post a .531 save percentage, recording an 8-8 record.
Nichols is set to play in 17 regular-season contests, seven of which will be held at the friendly confines of Vendetti Field. The Bison will kick off their campaign on Saturday, February 18 in a home matchup against Emerson at 1 p.m. before traveling to UMass Boston (Feb. 22) and Clark (Feb. 25) for a pair of non-conference road bouts.
Following three additional regional non-conference tune-ups, the team will head south for a quick road trip to Pennsylvania and Maryland to take on Gwynedd Mercy (Mar. 15) and Goucher (Mar. 18).
After returning north, the Bison will host Keene St. on March 22 before turning their attention to conference play in a home face-off with Salve Regina on March 29. As the calendar flips to April, Nichols will take part in seven CCC contests over the month, before finally capping off the regular season at Western New England on April 26.
