Chardae Saunders each threw down seven kills in Nichols College's 3-0 loss to Western New England University Tuesday night in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) women's volleyball action at the Nichols Athletic Center. The Golden Bears won game one 25-22, game two 25-21, and game three 28-26.
The Bison (8-8, 0-4 CCC) held an early 12-9 lead in the first game and then battled back from a 20-16 deficit to knot the score at 22 before losing the first point of the match. Saunders recorded three of her kills in the frame while Ashley Matthews led WNE (10-10-, 2-1 CCC) with seven.
Nichols traded points with the Golden Bears throughout the majority of the second set until the visitors grabbed a 16-15 lead and held on for the win. Fegan and freshman

In the third game, the Bison opened up a 12-7 lead following a pair of aces from sophomore
Rachael Veilleux. The lead swelled to 17-11 behind kills from Saunders and sophomore
Regan Richard before a quick 11-5 run by the Golden Bears knotted things up at 22. Another kill from Richard later in the game gave NC a 26-25 edge, but WNE grabbed the next three points to seal the win.
Tuxbury led all NC student-athletes with 15 digs to go with six kills and four assists while Veilleux filled the stat sheet with 23 assists and 12 digs. Matthews led the Golden Bears with 14 kills.
Three things you need to know...
-In last year's contest against the Golden Bears, the Bison won a total of 23 points as they lost 25-8, 25-8, and 25-7. They matched that total in the first game of tonight's match.
-Saunders has posted seven kills in three consecutive matches and also has four blocks during that span.
-Veilleux now has eight service aces in the last five matches.
