John Post

John Post begins his fourth season as the head coach of the men’s and women’s volleyball programs at Nichols College in 2021-22.

The 2020 women’s season was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic; they went on to play four scrimmage matches in the spring. The men, meanwhile, advanced to the New England Collegiate Conference (CCC) Semifinal and saw seven student-athletes named to the NECC Academic All-Conference Team. The women saw six garner Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Academic All-Conference honors.

The Bison women’s volleyball program won a program-record 12 matches in 2019 – a seven-win improvement from the previous season – and picked up their first-ever CCC win, defeating Curry to close the season. The men, meanwhile, were off to a scorching start in 2020, winning 13 of their first 18 matches before the season was canceled. Sophomore Lance Law and Ray Wang were each named to the NECC Second Team while senior Oscar Chavez was named to the Del Malloy Sportsmanship Team for the second-straight season.

In their first season of varsity competition, the men’s volleyball program won 17 matches and advanced to the NECC Semifinals. The Bison were led by a pair of all-conference performers in NECC Rookie of the Year Lance Law (First Team) and Ray Wang (Second Team). The women, meanwhile, set program records for home wins, kills, service aces, and assists.

Prior to his arrival at Nichols, Post served as both the head girls volleyball coach at Miss Porter’s School (Farmington, Conn.) and the head boys volleyball coach at Xavier High School (Middletown, Conn.). He also coached the JV program at both schools while overseeing all functions of the volleyball program.

At Miss Porter’s School, Post saw three students earn New England Preparatory Athletic Council (NEPSAC) All-Star Team honors. Meanwhile, at Xavier, Post guided the boys to a pair of Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference Final Four appearances (2010, 2015) and coached two Southern Connecticut Conference Player of the Year award winners. Four of his players at Xavier went on to play volleyball at the collegiate level.

Concurrently, Post was the head coach of the U16 Husky Volleyball Club boys team and the girls National Team, for whom he ran clinics, taught private lessons, and worked camps for. There, he coached five girls teams that qualified for the Junior Nationals.

Post began his coaching career as a student assistant coach at his alma mater, East Stroudsburg University, in 2009, where his primary responsibilities included hosting recruits, administering drills in practice, and helping develop game plans. After one season as the head JV coach and varsity assistant coach at Xavier High School (2010), Post grabbed the head coaching reins of the girls program at East Hampton High School, where he remained until taking over at Miss Porter’s School. Post guided East Hampton to the CIAC Final Four twice (2011, 2014).

From 2012-17, Post was the U16 Head Coach and 16-and-under Club Director for the Mizuno East Volleyball Club. He oversaw the development of players and coaches at the under-16 age level and was the head coach of the top U16 boys team. Post coached four teams which advanced to the USA Volleyball National Championships; he was an assistant coach on both the 2017 U18 Club National Championship squad and the 2016 U17 team that placed third.

Post graduated East Stroudsburg University in 2009 with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies. After a standout high school career at Xavier, where he was a three-year starter and captain as a senior, Post was a four-year member of the NCAA Division II East Stroudsburg Warriors volleyball program as a setter (2004-08), serving as captain during his final campaign. He also spent two years with the USA Junior Olympic volleyball club (2002-04) and later was a member of the Legion Men’s Club Team (Albany, N.Y.).
