DUDLEY, Mass. – The Nichols College women's tennis team has earned the No. 1 seed in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Tournament and will host No. 5 Roger Williams in a semifinal match on Tuesday, October 16 at 3:00 p.m. at the Robinson Tennis Courts.
The Bison enter the tournament at 11-0 overall, and posted a perfect 7-0 mark in the CCC for the third-straight season. Nichols is looking to three-peat as CCC Champions and capture its fourth title in program history. The Hawks meanwhile, enter the tournament at 7-5 overall (3-4 CCC). They advanced to the semifinals with a 5-3 win over No. 4 Salve Regina on Wednesday, October 9.
The Bison are led by junior and three-time CCC Player of the Year
Amarie Settiwongse, who was also named to the CCC First Team in Singles and Doubles. Joining her on the First Team - Doubles was classmate
Isabelle Leonardi. Also selected to the all-conference team was junior
Megan Nathanson, who earned Second Team - Doubles honors with partner
Rachel McDonald. Freshman
Kara Stankewitz received Second Team – Singles accolades while graduate student
Alanna Judd was honored with First Team – Singles and Third Team – Doubles honors. Junior
Lindsey Kaplan received Third Team - Doubles honors. Associate Head Coach
Eduardo Irizarry was named CCC Coach of the Year after leading the Bison to an undefeated season.
Roger Williams had a trio of
all-conference selections with sophomore Heidi Martin honored with First Team – Singles while junior Taryn Roche was selected to the Third Team - Singles. Junior Jessica Magliato was honored with Third Team – Doubles honors along with partner Heidi Martin.
The two teams met on September 24 with the Bison pulling out an 8-1 victory in Dudley, Mass. Nichols took all three doubles matches and added five singles wins. The match on Tuesday marks the
27th meeting between the two programs and the first in the playoffs since 2014. The Bison trail the series, 15-12, but have won the last three matches.
The winner of Tuesday's match advances to the CCC Championship and will take on the winner of the other semifinal between No.2 Endicott and No. 3 Gordon on Saturday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. at the highest remaining seed.
