Meghan Sears (Tewksbury, Mass.) pitched a complete game, four-hit shutout to backstop the Nichols College softball team to a 1-0 win over Augsburg at the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic Wednesday morning at North Collier Regional Park.
Junior
Samantha DiReda (Shrewsbury, Mass.) drove in the only run of the game – an unearned run – with a single through the left side of the infield in the second. Sears did the rest, scattering four hits over seven innings to earn her first win of the season. She walked three and did not strike out a batter.
Freshman
Callie Andrews (Southbridge, Mass.) was 3-for-3 and is now batting .407 on the season – good for second on the team.
Nichols returns home from its annual Spring Break trip with five wins for the first time since the 2007 campaign, when the Bison posted a 6-4 mark at the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic.
The Bison return to action next Friday with a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) doubleheader against Western New England. The first game begins at 3:00 p.m. at the Nichols Softball Field.
