NEWTON, Mass. – Senior
Alyssa Bufis (Linden, N.J.) produced a team season-high ten points (5-5-10) as the Nichols College women's lacrosse team defeated Mount Ida 20-11 in non-conference action Thursday afternoon at Alumni Field.
The 20 goals for the Bison matched a season-high total they had in the first game of the season against Smith. Nichols set a season-high for points in a game with 28 points, passing the 23-point mark – also against Smith.
Sophomore
Brooke Marion (South Hadley, Mass.) had four points (3-1-4) while senior captain
Grace Murphy (Montclair, Va.) and freshman
Lindsay O'Connell (Danvers, Mass.) each scored three goals as the Bison (4-7) have now won two games in a row for the first time under first-year head coach
Kathryn Beall.
Five other student-athletes scored goals for Nichols including junior
Meghan Dombkowski (Sagaponack, N.Y.) with two and freshman
Allison Bench (Windham, N.H.) who scored her first-collegiate goal.
The Mustangs (2-10) were led by senior Amanda Bowen (Randolph, Vt.) with six points (4-2-6) while freshman Hayley Napier (Fairhaven, Mass.) and junior Samantha Basler (Plymouth, Mass.) each scored two goals.
The score was 5-3 midway through the first half before the Bison proceeded to score eight of the final 10 goals to close out the half and take a 13-5 lead into the break.
Sophomore
Olivia Morawski (Fairfield, Conn.) opened up the scoring in the second half followed by a couple of goals by O'Connell and one by Marion. The Mustangs closed out the game scoring six of the final nine goals but the game was already well in hand.
Sophomore
Katherine Cotton (Kennebunk, Maine) played the first 40 minutes and stopped three shots to improve to 4-7 on the year. Freshman
Jacqueline Hogue (North Grafton, Mass.) played the final 20 minutes and made two saves. Freshman Sydney Fredette (Hudson, Mass.) six saves in the loss.
The Bison travel to take on conference foe Endicott on Saturday at 12:00 p.m. The Mustangs play at Norwich on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
