Talia Hohmann (Marina, Calif.) potted her fourth goal of the season as the Nichols College women's ice hockey team fell 3-1 to St. Michael's in Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) East action Wednesday night at Cairns Recreation Arena.
The Bison (7-16-0, 4-11-0 ECACE) tied the game at a goal apiece at 5:33 of the third period after senior
Taylor Brown (Winthrop, Mass.) took a shot from the point that rebounded off of sophomore goaltender Abby Burke (Bedford, Mass.). Hohmann came in and fired a low shot by Burke for the Bison's lone-goal of the game. Senior
Lisa Coskren (Norwood, Mass.) and Brown received credit for the assist on the play.
The Purple Knights (5-16-1, 4-10-1 ECACE) opened up the scoring at 6:54 of the first period when sophomore Carolyn Avery (Lexington, Mass.) took a pass up the ice from freshman Jillian Witwicki (Danvers, Mass.) and beat senior
Tori Gianformaggio (Huntington Beach, Calif.) over the glove side.
Avery scored the eventual game-winning goal at 13:22 after jamming in a rebound off the shot attempt from senior Shannon Rice (West River, Md.) that went off the leg pad of Gianformaggio. Sophomore Athena Akiki (Allendale, N.J.) scored an empty-netter at 19:14 to seal the deal.
Hohmann and Brown paced the Bison with four shots each while the Purple Knights were led by sophomore Erin Dwyer (Weymouth, Mass.) and freshman Sierra Hannough (Hudson, Quebec) with four shots.
Gianformaggio falls to 6-10-0 on the year after making 29 saves. Burke improves to 3-3-0 after stopping 19 shots.
The Bison travel to take on Holy Cross on Friday at 7:00 p.m. The Purple Knights host Manhattanville Friday at 7:00 p.m.
