Janine Coleman (Roslindale, Mass.) had a pinch hit, two-run single in Nichols College's 6-4 loss to Pitt.-Bradford Saturday morning in non-conference softball action at the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic at the Lee Sports Complex.
Freshman
Christina Drake (Lebanon, Mass.) also drove in a run as the Bison slipped to 1-2 on the season. The Panthers improved to 6-3 on the season.
Pitt.-Bradford tagged Nichols sophomore starting pitcher
Haley Fountain (Warren, Mass.) for three runs in the top of the first. Sophomore
Jordan D'Aurio (Northford, Conn.) scored the first Bison run on a passed ball in the fifth to cut their deficit to 3-1.
The Panthers tacked on two more in their half of the fifth to take a 5-1 lead. Nichols junior
Avery Orszulak (Springfield, Mass.) led off the sixth with a double and came around to score on Drake's two-bagger, making it 5-2. Later in the frame, Coleman singled to center to plate Drake and sophomore
Victoria Utter (Stafford Springs, Conn.) and bring the Bison to within one at 5-4. Pitt.-Bradford pushed across one in its half of the frame to close the scoring.
Fountain surrendered 11 hits and six runs (four earned) in six innings. She walked two and struck out seven.
Nichols faces St. Joseph's (ME) at 1 p.m.
