Box Score SALEM, Mass. – Senior captain
Michael Perry (Plainville, Mass.) potted his first goal of the season as the Nichols College men's soccer team finished with a 1-1 tie against Salem State in non-conference action Wednesday evening.
The Bison were 2-0-0 all-time against the Vikings going into the game, but Salem State quickly wanted to flip the script as sophomore Kevin Gallo (Melrose, Mass.) netted a pass from freshman Yabesy Musema (Lynn, Mass.) just 52 seconds into the game.
Nichols (8-1-3) had an opportunity to tie the game late in the period on a free kick just outside the box, but senior Nondas Kargakis (Heraklion, Greece) corralled the attempt to preserve Salem State's lead. The half would end with a 1-0 score.
Perry evened the score in the 69th minute on a penalty kick.
Both teams had prime scoring chances late including the Vikings' junior Tim Rezza (Peabody, MA) who had a scoring chance on the wing, but junior
Alex Geas (Somers, Conn.) made an outstanding save to keep the game tied. In the final minutes Wilson stopped a point-blank shot from junior
Tiago Prazeres (West Hartford, Conn.) on a breakaway to force overtime.
Neither team would score in the overtime as Nichols managed one shot on goal and Salem State just two.
Geas stopped seven shots for the Bison as his record shifts to 4-1-1 on the year. Kargakis had six saves and freshman Josh Wilson (Gloucester, Mass.) seven for Salem State.
The Bison will travel to Gordon College on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. The Vikings (1-9-1 play at home on Saturday against Westfield St. at 2:30 p.m.
