Bison thump Curry in conference action, 91-75

MILTON, Mass. – Sophomore Jalen Hurst (Hartford, Conn.) filled the stat sheet with five points, eight rebounds, two assists and two steals to help the Nichols College men's basketball team to a 91-75 win at Curry College in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) men's basketball action Saturday night at the Student Center Gym.

Senior captain Ryan Sheehan (North Attleboro, Mass.) added a team-high 18 points while junior Joe Gallant (Salem, N.H.) recorded 12 points, five assists and three rebounds. The win lifts the Bison to 6-4 on the season (3-1 CCC) while the Colonels fell to 2-7 (1-3 CCC).

Nichols took its biggest lead of the first frame (50-32) after Gallant sank a shot from beyond the arc with 51 seconds on the clock. Freshman Rodney Beldo (Dorchester, Mass.) answered with a three-point play to cap off the first half scoring, trimming Curry's deficit to 15 (50-35) heading into the break.

Senior Carlos Ribeiro (Charlestown, Mass.) opened the second half with a three-pointer to cut the lead to 12 (50-38). The Bison scored the next eight points, culminating with a three-point play by Sheehan with 17:40 remaining in regulation. With 3:26 on the clock, the Colonels came within 15 (85-70) after junior Matt Russell (South Portland, Maine) converted a layup, but were unable to pull any closer.

Senior Sam Horning (Falmouth, Maine) and junior Matt Langadas (Sebago, Maine) each added 10 points for Nichols, which now trails the all-time series 33-26. The Bison shot 62 percent (40-of-65).

Curry was led by senior Lambros Papalambros (Quincy, Mass.) with a game-best 21 points, while also recording eight rebounds. Junior Antonio Jones (Dorchester, Mass.) scored 15 points, while Beldo contributed 12. Beldo also dished out a game-high seven assists.

Both teams return to CCC action Thursday night, as the Bison host Western New England for a 7:30 p.m. contest, while the Colonels travel to Gordon for a 5:30 p.m. tip-off.
