Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

BRISTOL, R.I. – The Nichols College softball team was swept on Sunday in a Commonwealth Coast Conference doubleheader at Roger Williams by scores of 9-1 and 11-0.

In the opener, the Hawks' Lauren Tierney (Middleboro, Mass.) stole home as part of a double steal in the bottom of the first for a quick 1-0 lead. Veronica Alicea (Trumbull, Conn.) later brought in Chelsea Boulrisse (Bourne, Mass.) for 2-0 RWU lead.

RWU tacked on three more runs in the second, two of which came on a two-RBI single by Alicea. Delaney Burns (Hudson, N.H.) added another in the fourth on her first collegiate home run, a solo shot to left.

Nichols dented the scoreboard on a run-producing double to left by Jordan D'Aurio (Northford, Conn.) in the top of the fifth. The Hawks plated three more runs across in the bottom of the frame, with Alicea notching a ground-rule RBI double to score Boulrisse for the game-ending hit.

Meghan Maliga (Suffield, Conn.) allowed only one run in five innings in the win while striking out a career-high ten. Alicea finished 2-for-3 with four RBI, while Boulrisse, Burns, and Maliga each finished 2-for-3 as well, with Boulrisse scoring three runs, while Maliga scored twice.

Danielle White (Boston, Mass.) took the loss, tagged for nine runs (seven earned) in 4.1 innings. Emalee Watkins (Malden, Mass.), Janine Coleman (Roslindale, Mass.), Rebecca Palmarozza  (Hamden, Conn.), and D'Aurio all finished 1-for-2 on the day.

The second game saw the Hawks jump out to a commanding 5-0 lead after one. RWU brought ten batters to the plate, with the first seven batters all reaching base. Burns, Maliga, Caroline Atkinson (Milford, Mass.), and Alana Peoples (Scarborough, Maine) all tallied RBIs in the inning.

RWU followed with another big inning in the second, this time bringing home six runners. The Hawks rapped out six hits while taking advantage of two Bison errors in the inning. Tierney capped off the scoring with a two-RBI single.

Tori Milano (Eastchester, N.Y.) shut down the Bison offense for most of the day, scattering three hits in the shutout win, while not allowing a Nichols runner past second base. Five Hawks had multiple hits, including Tierney, Burns, and Maliga who all finished with two hits and two RBI.

Lindsay Rappazzo (Mashpee, Mass.) took the loss, allowing all 11 runs (eight earned) in four innings. Watkins, Coleman, and D'Aurio each finished the game 1-for-2 at the plate.

Roger Williams (10-12, 9-1 CCC) will host Clark University on Tuesday, while Nichols (4-14, 2-6 CCC) travels to Bridgewater State, also on Tuesday.
