CAPE CORAL, Fla. – The Nichols College softball team fell to 1-3 on the season with a 9-1 loss to Polytechnic (NY) at the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic Saturday afternoon at the Cape Coral Sports Complex.

Sophomore Janine Coleman (Roslindale, Mass.) drove in the Bison's only run of the day with a single down the left field line in the fourth. Classmate Emalee Watkins (Malden, Mass.) went 2-for-3 and also stole a base. Freshman Kaylee McNamara (Watertown, Mass.) surrendered 13 hits and nine runs (six earned) in seven innings of work in the circle. She walked two and did not record a strikeout.

Junior Megan Moran (Reno, Nev.) went 2-for-3 with three RBI while classmate Karina Amaro (Goleta, Calif.) went 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored to pace the Fighting Blue Jays (2-2). They scored four in the first and two in the second to grab a 6-0 lead after two.

Junior Briana Feist (San Diego, Calif.) picked up the win for the Fighting Blue Jays, scattering five hits over 5.2 innings. She walked two and fanned three.

Nichols plays Pitt.-Bradford at 9 a.m. and local rival UMass Dartmouth at 11 a.m. on Sunday. Polytechnic (NY) faces Wis.-Oshkosh at 1 p.m. and Brockport at 3 p.m.
