TOWSON, Md. – Nichols College junior
Ryan Sheehan (North Attleboro, Mass.) has been named to the 2012-13 Capital One Academic All-America® Division III Men's Basketball First Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
The Capital One Division II and III Academic All-America® program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division II and III national governance structures, to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2012-13 DII and DIII Academic All-America® teams program.
Sheehan – who holds a 3.89 grade point average (GPA) in international business – began the week No. 7 in the nation in scoring at 23.6 ppg. He has scored 20-or-more points in 15 contests and gone for 30+ points in six contests, highlighted by a career-high 40 points at MCLA on November 19. Sheehan is a three-time Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Player of the Week honoree. Earlier this month, he was named to the CoSIDA Division III Academic All-District 1 Team for the second-straight season.
“He's an unbelievable person. I think your GPA and how well you perform on the court are in direct correlation with one another, and he's a great example of that,” said Bison first-year head coach Jeff Lindgren, upon hearing Sheehan was an all-district selection.
Sheehan scored his 1,000
th career point in the final game of his sophomore season – a two-point loss in the conference semifinals at Salve Regina – and enters Tuesday's CCC Quarterfinal contest at Wentworth with 1,547 career points, which is No. 7 in program history. He is two points behind Marc Dupuis (1974-78) for sixth-place.
Off the court, Sheehan has been named to the Deans High Honors list in each of his first four semesters at Nichols and is a member of the Zeta Alpha Phi Honor Society. Currently the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) Treasurer, Sheehan will serve as President for the 2013-14 academic year.
