DUDLEY, Mass. – The Endicott College women's tennis program captured their third-straight Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Championship with a 5-1 win over top-seeded Nichols College Saturday afternoon at the Robinson Tennis Courts.
The Gulls (11-3) defeated the Bison for the third-consecutive season on their home court by winning all three doubles points, as well as the No. 3 and 4 singles matches. Their first point was earned at No. 3 doubles, where sophomores Suzie Newman (Dighton, Mass.) and Brittany Potter (Bedford, N.H.) defeated senior
Erin Rivers (Bristol, R.I.) and sophomore
Michelle Keklik (Stratford, Conn.), 8-4.
Freshman and CCC Player of the Year Chrissy Martel (Westbrook, Conn.) and junior Natalie Egbert (Gorham, Maine) knocked off senior
Anna Dyakiv (Amsterdam, N.Y.) and freshman
Cristina Szepanski (Windsor Locks, Conn.) at No. 1 doubles, 8-3, to earn the second point of their afternoon. Endicott completed the doubles sweep with an 8-6 win at No. 2 doubles as junior Amy Heacox (Marion, Mass.) and freshman Mackenzie Rhodes (Rye, N.H.) downed junior
Lindsay Benoit (Holden, Conn.) and freshman
Emma Carey (Venice, Fla.), 8-6.
Newman earned the fourth Endicott point with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Carey at No. 4 singles. The Bison got on the board when Benoit upended Heacox at No. 2 singles, 6-2, 6-2, before Egbert closed out the match with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Szepanski in the No. 3 singles match.
In matches that were not completed, Dyakiv won her first set at No. 1 singles 6-2 over Martel, Rhodes led Nichols junior
Kelsey Peterson (Fairbanks, Alaska) 5-4 in the first set at No. 5 singles, and Potter held a 6-0, 4-1 advantage at No. 6 singles.
The Gulls now wait to see where the NCAA selection committee will send them for their NCAA Tournament match. The Bison will compete at the NEWITT's on October 18.Â
