Box Score

SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. – Sophomore Talia Hohmann (Marina, Calif.) notched the lone Bison goal and classmate Tori Gianformaggio (Huntington Beach, Calif.) stopped 41 shots as the Nichols College women's ice hockey team was topped by Division I Sacred Heart, 4-1, on Saturday afternoon at the DoubleTree Ice Hockey Classic hosted by Saint Michael's.

Trailing 3-0, Hohmann, Nichols representative on the All-Tournament team, found the back of the net for her first goal of the weekend at the 9:14 mark of the third period with help from first-year Erin Dice (Ashburn, Va.).

Sophomore Grace Murphy (Montclair, Va.) paced the team with eight shots while classmate Alyssa Bufis (Linden, N.J.) took six. Junior Megan Gerein (Dubuque, Iowa) rounded out the Bison skaters that took aim at least five times on the afternoon.

The game remained scoreless for almost a period before Pioneer sophomore Melissa Robbins (Nashua, N.H.) potted an unassisted shorthanded marker at 18:56. Sacred Heart enjoyed a slim 13-12 edge in shots as each side went 0-for-1 on the power play.

Sophomore Casey Stathopoulos (Waltham, Mass.) planted the game-winner 13:26 into the middle frame off an assist by Robbins. Later in the period, Robbins collected her second goal of the afternoon at 18:50 with help from sophomore Cara Curran (Westford, Mass.). Sacred Heart began to pull away in the shot department as the squad took 16 of the 29 shots in the stanza. The Bison had a pair of chances with extra personnel while the Pioneers had one.

Hohmann took advantage on one of the two Bison power plays in the third to put the team on the scoreboard. Junior Sara Hanna (Linno Lakes, Minn.) tacked on an insurance tally off feeds from Stathopoulos and junior Jennie Robinson (Hyde Park, N.Y.) with 56 seconds left in the contest. Sacred Heart took another 16 shots while the Bison fired off 10. The Pioneers finished the stanza 1-for-3 on the power play.

Pioneer junior goaltender Alexius Schutt (Elk River, Minn.) collected 34 saves in the victory.

Nichols (2-10-0) ventures to Terry Connors Rink in Stamford, Conn. on Friday for a 7:30 p.m. game against #7/6 Manhattanville. The Bison return to the friendly confines of Levy Rink on Saturday night to complete the home-and-home series with the Valiants at 7:40 p.m. Sacred Heart (7-8-1) heads to Southern Maine for a two-game set on Tuesday and Wednesday at 3:00 p.m.
