Box Score

BURRILLVILLE, R.I. – Junior goaltender Mary Evans (Ferndale, Mich.) posted 16 saves in her fourth career shutout as #10 Manhattanville downed host Nichols on Saturday night in an ECAC East women's ice hockey matchup at Levy Rink.

Senior Alyssa Taylor (Craik, Saskatchewan) broke through with the first shot on goal in the game for either side and made it count as her attempt found an opening on the blocker side of the Nichols goaltender at 9:33. Classmates Katie Little (Victoria, British Columbia) and Jessica Kehoe (Kemptville, Ontario) each picked up a helper on the scoring play. Nichols sophomores Kerri Nadeau (Chepachet, R.I.) and Talia Hohmann (Marina, Calif.) each attempted to capitalize on a power play that began at 14:59 as Nichols outshot the Valiants 6-4 in the frame.

Keohoe added another Valiant goal at 10:55 in the second on a wrist shot from the slot. Shortly after, sophomore Alyssa Bufis' (Linden, N.J.) close range backhanded shot was thwarted by Evans. With 3:51 left in the frame, freshman Melissa Hauptman (Smithtown, N.Y.) collected her first collegiate goal with help from sophomore Aubrey Bachand (Harwichport, Mass.). The visitors doubled up the Bison 16-8 in the shot column and had the only power play of the frame.

At the 4:55 mark of the third, senior Lynsey Schill (Waterloo, Ontario) tested Nichols junior backstop Francesca Palazzo (Bernardston, Mass.) who made the stop. The final period was penalty-free while the Valiants had a 15-2 bulge in shots.

Evans improved to 6-5-1 while Palazzo slipped to 0-3-0 despite a game-best 32 stops.
