Sheehan drops 40 in 94-83 win at MCLA

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. - Junior Ryan Sheehan (North Attleboro, Mass.) racked up a career-high 40 points in Nichols College's 94-83 win at MCLA in non-conference men's basketball action Monday night.

Sophomore Jessy Michaud (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) added 11 points, a career-high nine assists and six rebounds as the Bison improved to 2-0 for the second-straight season. Sheehan, meanwhile, knocked down 50 percent of his field goal attempts (13-of-26), connected on 11-of-12 from the line, snared eight rebounds, picked up four steals and handed out three helpers.

Nichols led by as many as 19 points (33-14) in the first half before settling for a 41-25 halftime lead. Trailing by 14 in the second half, MCLA rattled off a 10-0 spurt to pull within five at 52-48 with just under 12 minutes to play. 

The Bison answered with an 8-1 run to regain a double-digit lead at 60-49, highlighted by a couple of three-pointers from senior Craig Merrick (Ledyard, Conn.). The Trailblazers (0-1) cut their deficit to six at 66-60 at the five-minute mark, but Nichols reeled off a 17-5 run - led by nine from Sheehan - to put the game away.

The two teams combined for 48 turnovers - 28 from the Bison and 20 from the Trailblazers. Defensively, Nichols held MCLA to 34 percent shooting. Sophomore Matt Langadas (Casco, Maine) added nine points while classmate Joe Gallant (Salem, N.H.) filled the stat sheet with six points, six rebounds, three blocks and two steals.

Junior John Jones (Worcester, Mass.) led four Trailblazers in double-figures with 18 points to go along with a game-high 11 boards. Senior Vernon Cross (Colonie, N.Y.) and sophomore Ruben DelRosario (Springfield, Mass.) each netted 17 points.

The Bison return to action on Monday, November 26 with a 7:30 p.m. contest at Fitchburg State. MCLA heads to Williams for a 6 p.m. contest on Sunday, November 25.
