Men's Hoops Dishes Eastern Nazarene 101-90 Defeat

Balanced attack leads Bison to highest scoring outing in almost four years

Box Score DUDLEY, Mass. (Jan. 31) – The Nichols College men's basketball team used a balanced scoring attack to defeat visiting Eastern Nazarene College, 101-90, in a Commonwealth Coast Conference game Tuesday evening. Two-time CCC Rookie of the Week Matt Langadas led the Bison to their highest scoring outing in almost four years with 19 points and seven rebounds as Nichols extended its win streak to a season-high four games.

First year guard Jalen Graham recorded his first career double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds, while CCC Player of the Week Ryan Sheehan  led all players with seven assists to go with 15 points.

Eastern Nazarene junior Max Barbosa scored a game-high 23 points off the bench, while forward Chima Ezeigbo  had a double-double with 21 points and 10 rebounds.

Eastern Nazarene used hot shooting from the field to open up a double digit lead at 26-15 just prior to the midpoint of the first half. The Lions began the game 9-of-12 from the field while Nichols struggled on just 6-17 shooting to start.

This did not last, however, as a Graham jumper followed by a Lions offensive foul sparked Nichols to an 8-0 run. Nichols began to heat up finishing the half at 47.7% shooting while ENC came back to earth with a 55.2 shooting percentage to end the half.

ENC built its lead back up to seven, but Nichols' relentless full court press assisted in the Bison comeback, as Nichols held the visitors scoreless over the final three minutes of the game while taking control on a 10-0 run to carry a 45-42 lead into the locker room at the half.

The Bison press continued to stifle the Lions in the second half, forcing three turnovers in a minute and a half span to break open a double-digit lead at the midpoint. The Bison then went wild, leading by as many as 18 before late turnovers and a 10-3 ENC run cut the Nichols lead to six points, but it was too little, too late for the Lions.

The Bison had a well balanced attack on the night with 10 players getting on the board, six of them in double figures.

Nichols, winners of nine of the last 11, improves to 7-5 in CCC play, while the Lions drop to 3-9. Nichols looks to extend the winning streak to five games Thursday February 2 in a 6 p.m. game at Endicott. Eastern Nazarene hosts Salve Regina Thursday at 8 p.m.
