Men's Hoops Rallies Past Curry For Late 80-78 Win

Sheehan matches career high, Langadas hits game-winner

Box Score MILTON, Mass. (Jan. 25) – Reigning CCC Rookie of the Week Matt Langadas hit the game winning layup with three seconds remaining to give Nichols College an 80-78 victory over Curry College Wednesday evening in Milton. The bucket capped the second straight comeback win by the Bison, this time an 18-point effort to bring Nichols to a 7-10 overall record and an even 5-5 ledger in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) games.

Sophomore Ryan Sheehan tied a career-high with 37 points, going 13-for-22 from the floor, and 10-for-11 from the free-throw line. Langadas went 5-for-9 from the field in contributing 11 points.

Curry took its biggest lead of the game (30-12) after freshman Thomas McLean made a layup with 8:24 left in the first frame. Nichols went on a 24-9 run over the remainder of the half to cut the deficit to three (39-36) heading into intermission Sheehan accounted for 14 points during the run and finished the half with 20.

The Bison took their first lead (66-64) of the second half with 7:06 on the clock after first year Marlon Bennett sank a shot from beyond the arc. McLean sank a pair from the charity stripe with 2:33 remaining in regulation to tie the game at 75-75. Nichols responded with a Sheehan three-pointer to reclaim the lead. Colonels' sophomore Lambros Papalambros immediately answered with a three of his own to again tie the game at 78-78. The Bison ran down the game clock over the next 34 seconds, setting up Langadas' game-winning shot.

Curry was led by junior Sedale Jones with a double-double, scoring 22 points and pulling down 10 rebounds. Papalambros added 17 points, while McLean and senior Michael Connery contributed 12 and 10, respectively.

The Bison bench was outscored by an opponent for just the third time in league play this season. Both teams were on the mark in the game shooting-wise, but it was Nichols who took better control of the ball with 11 turnovers (four in the first half), and who parlayed the Colonels' 26 into 28 points. Curry, meanwhile, outrebounded Nichols at a 48-33 clip,

Nichols returns to Dudley Saturday to host Western New England in a 12 p.m. game.  Curry travels to Gordon Saturday for a 3 p.m. game.
