Manhattanville Skates Past Women's Ice Hockey, 5-1

Box Score HARRISVILLE, R.I. (Jan. 13) – Eight different players registered at least one point for Manhattanville as the Valiants downed Nichols 5-1 on Friday night in an ECAC East women's ice hockey contest at Levy Rink. With the win, Manhattanville improves to 6-6-2 overall and 4-2-1 in the loop as the Bison move to 4-9-1 and 1-5-1. The squads will meet again tomorrow at 7:00 p.m. in Rye, N.Y.

Within five minutes the two clubs combined for three goals. Junior Katie Little wrapped around the net and dished to classmate Alyssa Taylor who fired the puck past the Nichols netminder at 3:30. The Bison responded 50 seconds later as first-year Grace Murphy carried the puck up the ice and took a wrist shot that hit the post. She then knocked home her own rebound as she dove forward to poke it in. The Valiants took 29 seconds to regain the lead as junior Lynsey Schill threaded a scrum in front of the net off a pass from sophomore Haleigh Hutchinson. Hutchinson extended the Manhattanville lead at 12:24 as she wristed a shot from the top of the circle off a feed from Little.

The Valiants scored the lone tallies in the second and third periods. At 5:48, senior Hannah Muskego took a slapshot from the point with help from juniors Jessica Kehoe and Alyssa Taylor. The final score found the back of the net on a delayed penalty as junior Mary Rose Morrison beat the netminder with 3:20 left on the scoreboard.

Manhattanville outshot the hosts 40-16 and held a 38-31 margin on faceoffs. The Valiants had seven power play chances while Nichols had five opportunities with extra personnel.

Sophomore goalie Mary Evans improves to 4-1-0 and made 15 stops for Manhattanville. Bison sophomore Francesca Palazzo stopped 35 shots in the effort.
