Box Score SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (May 3) – The third-seeded Nichols College softball team fell to sixth-seeded Curry, 3-1, in the first game of the double elimination round of the 2011 The Commonwealth Coast Conference Tournament Tuesday at Western New England.
Freshman Jennifer Lundstrom struck out nine, allowing one unearned run on a pair of hits to lead Curry to the upset win.
Chelsea Correia (Seekonk, Mass.) led off the second with a single and after advancing to second on a
Mary Kate Frodema (Springfield, Mass.) single, stole third and crossed home on a throwing error.
The Colonels plated three runs in the top of the third on a two-run double by freshman outfielder Chelsey Munsey. Munsey then came around to score on a single by senior first baseman Amanda Peters.
Molly Ferraro (Millis, Mass) shouldered the loss with three runs on five hits while walking four and striking out five.
Curry (22-21) will play the fourth-seeded University of New England at Endicott, and Nichols (22-16) will face fifth-seeded Roger Williams at Gordon. Both games are scheduled for 2:30 p.m. on Thursday (May 5). The winners will advance to meet and the losers will be eliminated from championship play.
