Grace Murphy put Nichols ahead in the second period before Colby came back to defeat the Bison 2-1 in women's ice hockey action at the Saint Michael's Holiday Classic that wrapped up Saturday. Murphy finished the weekend with a goal and an assist to pace the Bison and land on the All-Tournament team. Nichols (4-7-1) welcomes Connecticut College to Levy Rink for an 8:10 p.m. contest on Wednesday night.
The Bison outshot the Mules 10-7 in the scoreless first stanza as Nichols had a pair of power play opportunities while Colby had one.
Murphy capitalized on the first Bison power play chance in the second frame to put the squad ahead at 13:38. Senior captain
Courtney Carey would aid in the effort with an assist. Colby found the back of the net 23 seconds later off the stick of junior Samantha Slotnick with assists by rookie Lauren Guarente and senior Marissa Simmons.
Sophomore Caroline Chessare and first-year Carolyn Fuwa teamed up to score the game-winner for the Mules with just over nine minutes remaining in the game.
Nichols scored once in five power play chances as the Mules finished 0-for-2.
Colby's sophomore goalie Grace Dickinson stopped 16 shots as sophomore
Francesca Palazzo collected 31 saves on the day.
