Women's Ice Hockey Suffers Setback to Sacred Heart, 5-2, at Saint Michael's

Amber Aaskov nets first collegiate goal

Box Score SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. (Dec. 30) – Sophomore Megan Gerein and first-year Amber Aaskov each scored for the Bison in a 5-2 setback against Sacred Heart in women's ice hockey action at the Saint Michael's Holiday Classic on Friday. The Bison (4-6-1) look to rebound tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. when the squad takes on Colby in the second day of the event.

Nichols held the Pioneers scoreless in the third period while inching back into the game with a pair of goals. Gerein found success first off a feed from Grace Murphy at 5:17. With 1:23 left in the game senior Mandy Manopla and first-year Lisa Coskren each helped setup Aaskov's first collegiate tally.
 
Pioneer rookie Melissa Robbins scored twice, while junior Maura Leahy had a goal and an assist. Senior Nicole Palazzo dished out three assists. Senior Tara Kent scored the game-winner as first-year Meaghan Souza added an insurance marker.
 
Sacred Heart sophomore goalie Alexius Schutt had 37 saves while the battery of first-year Tori Gianformaggio, classmate Rebecca Cohen and sophomore Francesca Palazzo each spent time in net for the Bison combining to make 31 stops. Cohen turned away six shots to help Nichols blank the Pioneers in the third.
 
The Bison converted one of eight power play chances while Sacred Heart went 2-for-6.
