WENHAM, Mass. (April 13) – Nichols College swept two games from Gordon on the softball diamond Wednesday afternoon in Wenham, taking game one, 10-0, in five innings and winning the second, 3-2. Bison pitcher Lindsay Hassett (Oxford, Mass.) tossed complete games in both contests to pick up her first two wins of the season. Nichols moves to 10-18 and 7-9 in conference with the victories, while Gordon drops to 12-15 and is 7-11 in league play.

The visitors jumped on top early in game one, as Valeri Calcagni (Rocky Hill, Conn.) launched a 2-run shot in the second inning, and teammate Ashley Robidoux (Milford, Mass.) added a 3-run blast in the third inning to stake Nichols to a 5-0 lead after three. Nichols scored once more in the fourth and put the game out of sight in the fifth, taking advantage of two Scots' errors to put up four hits and four runs.

Gordon struggled to generate any offense against Hassett as she limited Gordon to one hit by Kerry McPartlan and faced the minimum 15 batters in five innings. Emily Borden took the loss for Gordon.

Game two was much closer, as both teams enjoyed fine pitching performances. Gordon's Hannah Lawrence allowed single runs in the first and second innings, but the Fighting Scots tied the score in the third inning on an RBI single from Sarah Quint and a sac fly from Elisabeth Cheesman.

With the score knotted at 2-2 in the 5th, Robidoux knocked in Chelsea Correia (Seekonk, Mass.) with an RBI single to take the lead. The 3-2 Bison lead stood up the rest of the way. Gordon threatened in the 6th with a leadoff single by Cheesman, but Hassett did not allow another player to reach base.

Gordon will host Salem State in non-conference action on Wednesday at 3PM. Nichols will play Westfield State at 3:30PM on Thursday.
