Box Score 2 HENNIKER, N.H. (March 27) – The Nichols College softball team split a The Commonwealth Coast Conference doubleheader against New England College Saturday afternoon. The Bison dropped the first game, 5-3, before winning the nightcap, 7-4. Nichols stands at 4-10 overall and 2-2 in conference play. The Pilgrims are 3-9, 1-1 in TCCC action.
In the opener, the Pilgrims scored five runs on 10 hits, and stranded the tying run on base to halt the Bison's comeback. Down by four, Nichols plated a pair in the top of the seventh on four consecutive hits, including a double from Loren Rozanski (Plainville, Conn.) and RBI singles from Chelsea Correia (Seekonk, Mass.) and Valeri Calcagni (Rocky Hill, Conn.). After a sacrifice bunt, NEC pitcher Gabrielle Timms induced a popup and a groundout to end the threat.
Timms struck out two, walked three and allowed six hits in the win. Lindsay Hassett (Oxford, Mass.) fanned five and allowed five runs (four earned) on 10 hits.
In the second game, the Bison took advantage of a trio of errors through the first two innings to score three runs, and added single scores in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings. The Pilgrims put two across in the fourth and sixth on RBI doubles from Alyssa Hoot and Meghan Beausoleil.
Molly Ferraro (Millis, Mass.) earned the win with five strikeouts, allowing four runs on nine hits. Bethany Forshaw took the loss with six runs (two earned) on seven hits through five innings before giving way to Timms, who allowed one run on three hits.
Nichols hosts Anna Maria College in a TCCC doubleheader Sunday at noon.
