Softball Edges Geneva, Falls to Framingham

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

KISSIMMEE, Fla. (March 15) – The Nichols College softball team split games on its third day at the Rebel Spring Games in Kissimmee, Fla., defeating Geneva College, 1-0, in the early game before falling to Framingham State, 7-3, in the second game. The Bison stand at 2-4 on the year and face Illinois-Wesleyan and Montclair State on Wednesday after an off day Tuesday.

In the opening game, Nichols had runners in scoring position in the second, third and fourth innings, but it wasn't until the fifth that Ashley Robidoux (Milford, Mass.) sent Samantha Hardigan (Brockton, Mass.) across with two outs for what proved to be the winning run.

Kara Buckley (Nashua, N.H.) tossed a four-hitter with two strikeouts to improve to 1-1 on the season.

In the second game, Framingham scored two runs in the second on two hits and an error in the second game, and tacked on another in the third on an error. Three hits and an error produced three runs in the fifth to give the Rams a 5-0 lead, and Framingham's leadoff batter eventually scored on an illegal pitch in the sixth – all before Nichols got its first hit of the game.

Robidoux got on board with a single in the bottom of the seventh and advanced on a throwing error, eventually coming around to score when Valeri Calcagni (Rocky Hill, Conn.) reached on an error.

Kaitlyn DeVincentis (Malden, Mass.) took the loss in her first start, allowing seven runs (three earned) on 10 hits while striking out two. Andrea DiTerlizzi fanned seven and allowed three runs on one hit to pick up the win.
