Softball Edged In Opening Two Games in Florida

KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The Nichols College softball team was edged in extra innings in both games on the opening day of play at the Spring Rebel Games Sunday. Nichols fell in the opener, 3-1, to Nazareth in eight innings, and then fell to William Patterson, 2-1, in eight innings.

First-year ouitfielder Lauren Correia (Seekonk, Mass.) paced the Nichols bats with a 4-for-7 effort on the day, going 2-for-3 against William Patterson. Also racking up a pair of hits against William Patterson was sophomore Shannon Weeks (Greenfield, Mass.) who went 2-for-3 in the game.

Sophomore Lindsay Hassett (Oxford, Mass.) pitched 6.2 innings against the Pioneers, striking out three while allowing six hits and an earned run. Sophomore Kara Buckley (Nashua, N.H.) shouldered the loss in relief.

Against the Golden Flyers, junior Ashley Wyland (Schenectady, N.Y.) struck out five and allowed four hits in the 6.2 innings before giving way to Molly Ferraro (Millis, Mass.). Junior catcher Lauren Lombardo (Wolcott, Conn.) led the Bison at the plate, going 2-for-4.

Nichols continues action at the Spring Rebel Games Monday when the Bison take on Springfield College at 1 p.m. and Washington & Jefferson at 5 p.m.
