Box Score

DUDLEY, Mass. (Nov. 25) – The Fisher College men's basketball team defeated Nichols College, 81-66, Tuesday night, thanks in large part to their shooting. As a team Fisher shot 50% both from the field and outside the arc. Led by Christaan Hammond's (Seattle, Wash.) 25 points, the Falcons were able to open up the lead in the second half on their way to a victory.

Louis Williams (Burlington, Vt.), Dennis Norford (New Haven, Conn.), Ryan Henry (Westwood, N.J.), and Hammond all scored in double figures for the Falcons while Hammond had eight assists and seven steals to add to his 25 points.

Three players managed double figure scoring for the Bison. Ryan Wilcox (West Granby, Conn.) put in 12 points. Senior guard Chris Paquin (Barre, Mass.) and sophomore forward Pete Atkins (Gainesville, Fla.) each had 13 points. Senior guard Brian Riley (West Boylston, Mass.) led the Bison with six rebounds, four assists and two steals.

The first half was a tight contest as the largest lead at any point was just seven by Fisher. Nichols spread the scoring around as all six scorers scored in the range of four to six points. The largest gap of seven points by the Falcons occurred 4:40 into the game and Nichols quickly came back from it, scoring seven straight points to tie it up in a 2:30 minute span.

The half closed out with Nichols' Kyle Mascilak (Sparta, N.J.) layup to tie it up at 29 with seven seconds to go, but Fisher charged down the court and Williams hit a three at the buzzer to give the Falcons the 32-29 halftime lead.

Each team's first half field goal percentage indicated how close of a game it was as each team held at 41.4% shooting. The rebounds were also even at 18 a piece, but Fisher held a slight edge in the turnover category with two less.

The second half started with each team in a shooting drought as it took 3:03 into the half before Nichols managed to put in a basket to make it 31-32. They then took the lead with a Wilcox layup with 16:24 on the clock, but that would be the last time Nichols saw the lead in the game.

Fisher began to pull away as Norford scored six of the Flacons next 10 points, but Nichols began to crawl back led by a pair of Paquin threes and tied it at 41 with 13:04 remaining. However Fisher managed to control the game after that, opening up its lead a little at a time, leading by as much as 17 and the final score of 81-66.

Rebounds, assists, and turnovers held close between the two teams in the game, but the shooting is what separated the two. Nichols finished the game shooting 40.4% and 26.1% from three. The Bison's bench outscored the Falcon's bench 31-7.

Nichols is back in action December 3rd on the road against Connecticut College at 7:00 pm. Fisher next plays Hesser College at home on December 1st at 7:00 pm.
