SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. – The Colby College women's hockey team defeated Nichols, 4-0, in the opening round of the Saint Michael's College Holiday Classic, sponsored by the Windjammer Restaurant, at Cairns Arena Friday evening. The Bison drop to 0-9-0 on the season, while the Mules improve to 4-1-1.

First-year netminder Christine Mazza (Dedham, Mass.) turned aside 36 shots for Nichols.

Colby scored in each period to earn the shutout win. Ten different players scored a point in the victory, led by sophomore Liz Osgood, who had a pair of assists. Scoring goals for Colby were senior Rebecca Julian, junior Andrea Fuwa, sophomore Stephanie Scarpato and freshman Hannah O'brien. Senior Shelley Payne (Pelham, N.Y.) stopped 25 shots for the win.

The tournament concludes on Saturday, as Saint Michael's and Colby square off at 1 p.m. for the tournament championship, followed by Chatham and Nichols at 4 p.m.
