Men's Hoops Holds Off Fisher, 68-66

ROXBURY, Mass. – Sophomore forward Chris Smith (Moosup, Conn.) scored 15 points and collected a game-high 19 rebounds as the Nichols College men's basketball team held on for a 68-66 win over Fisher College at Madison Park Community Center Tuesday evening. With the win, the Bison draw even at 4-4 on the season.

Senior guard Jeff Lindgren (Sturbridge, Mass.) added 13 points for the Bison, while Fisher senior Brendan Hamilton paced the Falcons with 22 points and 10 rebounds on 8-for-22 shooting.

Nichols carried a 10-point lead into halftime, paced by 10 points and 10 rebounds from Smith in just 14 minutes on the court. The Bison held a slim lead for most of the frame until the Falcons' Stephen Rice sank a jumper with 7:19 left to give Fisher a 25-24 lead, but Nichols went on a 17-6 run to close out the stanza.

A Brian Riley (West Boylston, Mass.) free throw with 8:21 left put Nichols up by 18, but the Falcons chipped away at the lead, cutting it to two with 53 seconds left after Casey Pursell sank a pair of free throws to cap a 22-6 run.

The Bison held a 30-18 advantage in points in the paint and a 54-49 lead in rebounds.

Nichols closes out the first half of the season with a 1 p.m. home game against Clark on Saturday.
