BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. (9/8/2026) - The Nichols College men's soccer team battled Massachusetts Maritime Academy Tuesday evening at Clean Harbors Stadium, ultimately falling to the Buccaneers, 2-1, in a non-conference match up.

The loss moves Nichols to 2-2-0 on the season, while Massachusetts Maritime Academy rises to 1-1-1.

The Bison and Buccaneers played to a scoreless first half, with Nichols goalkeeper Chase Henderson making four saves to keep the match even through the opening 45 minutes. Nichols also created opportunities of its own, with Ethan Knowles, Evan Giannini, and Tommy Crenwick each putting a shot on target during the first half.

Mass. Maritime opened the scoring just under two minutes into the second half, but Nichols continued to push forward in search of an equalizer. The Bison generated five shots in the second half after recording three in the opening period.

The Buccaneers added a second goal in the 64th minute, but Nichols continued to battle and eventually broke through late in the contest.

With just over seven minutes remaining, Alexandro Montreuil cut the deficit to 2-1 with his second-half strike at 82:40. Ayden Gardner and Ethan Knowles combined to set up the goal, giving the Bison new life in the closing minutes.

Montreuil finished with two shots, both on target, while Knowles recorded an assist and a shot on goal. Tommy Crenwick and Aysaiah Chavez also put shots on frame for Nichols.
The Bison continued to pressure late, but Mass. Maritime goalkeeper Preston Joia made four second-half saves to preserve the Buccaneers' lead. Nichols finished with eight shots and six shots on target, while Henderson turned aside seven of Mass. Maritime's nine shots on frame.

Henderson played all 90 minutes in goal, while Shea Ullo also logged the full match. Chavez and Abroms each played more than 80 minutes, with Benigni recording 83 minutes and Knowles 74. Off the bench, Nick Reilly played 47 minutes, while Montreuil contributed 35 minutes and made his time count with the late goal.

The Bison return to action Wednesday, September 9th as they host Lasell University on the Nichols Soccer Field at 4:00 PM.
