DUDLEY, Mass. (9/5/2026) - The Nichols College men's soccer team honored its senior class prior to Saturday morning's contest with Emerson College as part of Senior Day at Nichols Soccer Field. Despite a strong effort from the Bison throughout the 90 minutes, Emerson used a pair of first-half goals and a second-half insurance tally to hand Nichols a 3-0 setback.
With the loss, the Bison fall to 2-1 on the season, while Emerson improves to 3-0.

Nichols entered Saturday's contest looking to remain unbeaten at home after opening the season with a pair of road victories. The Bison recognized their seniors during a pregame ceremony before taking the field against an Emerson squad that entered the afternoon 2-0 on the season.

The Lions wasted little time finding the scoreboard, taking a 1-0 lead in the seventh minute when Carlo Carson finished a chance off an assist from Nick Mirogiannis. Emerson doubled its advantage just under seven minutes later, as Thomas Pelino converted a chance assisted by Mirogiannis and Ethan Minster in the 14th minute.

Nichols goalkeeper Anthony Grguric kept the Bison within striking distance throughout the opening half, making four saves as Emerson generated 10 shots. The Bison looked to generate opportunities of their own, with Nick Reilly recording Nichols' first shot just under two minutes into the contest and Evan Giannini adding another chance later in the half.

The Bison continued to battle into the second half, with Ethan Knowles forcing a save from Emerson goalkeeper Lasse Bartsh-Erforth in the 63rd minute. Grguric continued to keep Nichols within reach, making consecutive saves on Emerson chances in the 63rd and 66th minutes.

Emerson eventually extended its lead in the 67th minute when Cade Lagerwey found the back of the net off a Vigo Cassidy assist, making it a 3-0 contest.

With the result decided late, Nichols was able to provide valuable minutes to several members of its freshman class. Tommy Crenwick, Grant Godzwon, Mason Fowler and Nicolas Huppert all saw action during the second half, while freshman goalkeeper Chase Henderson entered in the 74th minute and made three saves in just over 16 minutes of work. Freshman Maxwell Abroms also started and played 72 minutes, while freshman Nick Reilly earned the start and logged 65 minutes.

Henderson made saves on three consecutive Emerson chances late in the second half, helping keep the Lions from adding to their advantage. The Bison continued to compete until the final whistle, with Carter Hoglund firing a shot in the 84th minute.

Emerson finished the afternoon with a 23-6 advantage in shots and held a 14-1 edge in shots on goal. Grguric made six saves over 73 minutes, while Henderson added three saves following his substitution.

Nichols returns to action Tuesday, September 8, when they travel to Massachusetts Maritime Academy for a 7:00 PM  kickoff at Clean Harbors Stadium.
