DUDLEY, Mass. (April 15, 2026) – In another high-scoring affair, the Nichols College baseball team came up just short in a 19-15 loss to Trinity College Wednesday afternoon at the Nichols Baseball Field. Despite multiple comebacks and tying the game in the sixth inning, Nichols ultimately fell to the Bantams in a game that featured 34 combined runs.
The Bison falls to 14-12 (6-4 CNE) on the season, while Trinity moves to 17-7.
Nichols jumped out to an early lead, scoring three runs in the bottom of the first inning.
Jack Raymond set the tone with a first-pitch leadoff home run, while
Ryan Keating and
Kyle Birks each drove in runs to give the Bison a 3-0 advantage.
Trinity responded quickly, tying the game in the third before erupting for five runs in the fourth inning to take a 9-6 lead. The Bison answered in the fifth, plating five runs to reclaim the lead. Keating delivered a key two-run double, while
Andrew Rocca added an RBI as Nichols surged ahead 11-9.
After Trinity scored four runs in the sixth to retake the lead, Nichols again battled back. In the bottom half of the inning,
Tyler Ladouceur ripped a two-run double, and Rocca added an RBI groundout to tie the game at 14-14.
The game remained tight until the eighth inning when Trinity broke through once more. A two-run home run from Tyler Bernstein sparked a four-run eighth inning before adding two more insurance runs in the ninth, giving the Bantams a 19-14 lead. Nichols managed to push across one run in the bottom of the ninth on an RBI double from Birks, but could not complete another comeback.
Offensively, the Bison totaled 13 hits, with Keating leading the way with three hits, including a home run and three RBIs. Birks added two hits and two RBIs, Wendell recorded three hits and drove in a run, and Ladouceur chipped in with a two-RBI double. Nichols was aggressive with stealing six bases, including three from
Anthony Hackert.
The Bison return to the road tomorrow, when they travel to Longley Athletic Complex to face Dean College for a 3:30 PM game.
