MILLBURY, Mass. (3/21/2026) – The Nichols College baseball team split a doubleheader with Wheaton College (Mass.) on Saturday afternoon in Millbury, Massachusetts, cruising to a dominant victory in game one before dropping a tightly contested extra-inning battle in game two.
With the results, Nichols sits at 5-6 on the season, while Wheaton moves to 8-3.
Game One: Nichols 14 Wheaton 3
Nichols' offense erupted early and often, powering the Bison to a convincing 14-3 win behind a complete-game effort on the mound from graduate student
Clark Churchill.
The Bison wasted no time setting the tone, scoring three runs in the first inning before breaking the game open with a six-run second inning. RBI hits from
Anthony Hackert and
Tyler Ladouceur highlighted the rally, while
Collin Harty delivered a three-run bomb to left center to give Nichols a commanding 9-1 lead after two innings of play.
Nichols continued to tack on runs in the third and ninth innings, finishing with 14 runs on 12 hits. Hackert went 2-for-4 with three RBIs and Ladouceur went 2-for-3 with three RBIs to lead the offensive charge, while Harty drove in a game-high four runs.
On the mound, Churchill tossed a complete game while allowing just three runs and striking out seven batters. After allowing runs in the first and third innings, Churchill settled in and shut down Wheaton the rest of the way to secure the win.
Game Two: Wheaton 4 Nichols 3 (11 innings)
Game two proved to be the opposite story, as Nichols fell in a hard-fought 11 inning contest. Wheaton jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning, but Nichols responded in the second on an RBI single from
Kyle Birks. The Bison took their first lead in the sixth inning when
Adam Pivacek came through with a two-run double, putting Nichols ahead 3-2.
Nichols' pitching staff held firm through the middle innings, with
Abe Anderson and
Mitch Brown combining for six scoreless frames in relief. In the bottom of the ninth inning, Wheaton tied the game on a solo home run from Declan Lush to send it to extra innings.
The game remained deadlocked into the 11th inning, when Wheaton's Robbie Lamond delivered a walk-off RBI single to secure the 4-3 victory.
Offensively, Nichols totaled 11 hits, with
Ryan Keating,
Julian Galvan, and
Anthony Hackert each recording two-hit games. Pivacek's two RBI and Birk's one RBI accounted for the Bison's RBIs in the game. On the mound, Nichols totaled 13 strikeouts, with
Mitch Brown and
Andrew Rocca tallying the most with 4 each.
The Bison host their first home and Conference of New England game on Tuesday, March 24th, when they host Curry College at the Nichols Baseball Field. First pitch is set for 3 PM.
